How it began...
The Cottage Grove school (now Baker's
ATA) has been an ATA school for over a decade. It was the same
school that the current owners (Erin and Morgan Baker) first started
their Taekwondo training more than seven years ago.
Where we are now...
Baker's ATA Black Belt Academy has been
in operation since March of 2004, and is still an independently
owned and operated martial art school specializing in Songahm
Taekwondo. Licensed through the American
Taekwondo Association, our program is comprised of a traditional
physical curriculum with beneficial life skills. Our classes will
not only show you how to kick and punch, but how to have self
esteem, discipline, focus, and integrity. Read the news article.
How we are different...
Our focus is on "Creating Tomorrow's
Leaders - One Black Belt at a Time." We strive to provide
each of our students with the highest quality in instruction,
service and individual attention to their needs and goals. Our
product? An individual who has developed all the necessary attributes
to succeed in all aspects of life, no matter where they may go,
or what they may do.
Our emblem of purpose...
Our school patch was designed by Morgan
Baker to reflect the attitude and standard she and Erin wished
their school to represent. In the center of the patch, the Um
Yang symbol represents the balance of opposite elements. For those
who know them best, it is a perfect representation of Erin and
Morgan Baker! The outer ring incorporates the letters of their
name broken into attributes which have helped them achieve their
goals. They are:
Balance: With
balance, goals can be achieved without neglecting other important
aspects in life.
Attitude: No
matter how hard the road, a positive attitude will see you through.KINDNESS:
How we treat and interact with our juniors and seniors reflects
not only on our manners, but the deep truths of our character
and humanity.
Energy: Energy,
whether mental or physical, will aid in seeing your goals (especially
the long-term ones!) through to their completion. Yet another
reason we need to take care of ourselves, both physically and
mentally.
Respect: Respect
brings order to where there would be chaos. To consistently demonstrate
respect for property, laws, ethics, morals, other people, or ourselves,
is to maintain a positive standard in our society.
